Britannica Concise Encyclopedia: Christianity

Religion stemming from the teachings of Jesus in the 1st century AD. Its sacred scripture is the Bible, particularly the New Testament. Its principal tenets are that Jesus is the Son of God (the second person of the Holy Trinity), that God’s love for the world is the essential component of his being, and that Jesus died to redeem humankind. Christianity was originally a movement of Jews who accepted Jesus as the messiah, but the movement quickly became predominantly Gentile. The early church was shaped by St. Paul and other Christian missionaries and theologians; it was persecuted under the Roman Empire but supported by Constantine I, the first Christian emperor. In medieval and early modern Europe, Christian thinkers such as St. Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, and Martin Luther contributed to the growth of Christian theology, and beginning in the 15th century missionaries spread the faith throughout much of the world. The major divisions of Christianity are Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Protestantism. Nearly all Christian churches have an ordained clergy, members of which are typically though not universally male. Members of the clergy lead group worship services and are viewed as intermediaries between the laity and the divine in some churches. Most Christian churches administer two sacraments, baptism and the Eucharist. In the early 21st century there were more than two billion adherents of Christianity throughout the world, found on all continents.

Moving back to Biblical Morals and standards.

How many times have you hear “We need to get back to the bible!” I certainly hope not, for what does the Bible really teach as far as morals and behavior are concerned. Let us take a look at some of the “Biblical Morals and teachings”

Pimping your wife and half sister.
Gen 20:1 And Abraham went on his way from there to the land of the South, and was living between Kadesh and Shur, in Gerar.
Gen 20:2 And Abraham said of Sarah, his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech, king of Gerar, sent and took Sarah.
Gen 20:3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream in the night, and said to him, Truly you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken; for she is a man’s wife.

    The practice of incest.
Gen 20:10 And Abimelech said to Abraham, Why did you do this thing?
Gen 20:11 And Abraham said, Because it seemed to me that there was no fear of God in this place, and that they might put me to death because of my wife.
Gen 20:12 And, in fact, she is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife:

Early on in the Bible we see that Incest and pimping you wife is condoned and practiced.

What if a man seduces a virgin?
Exo 22:16 “If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged, he must pay the bride price for her and marry her.
Exo 22:17 But if her father refuses to let him marry her, he must pay the father a sum of money equal to the bride price for a virgin.

    What about bestiality?
Exo 22:19 “Put to death any man who has sexual relations with an animal.

    What about practicing magic?
Exo 22:18 “Put to death any woman who practices magic.

    What about offering sacrifices??
Exo 22:20 “Condemn to death anyone who offers sacrifices to any god except to me, the LORD.

What about death sentences under the Bible?
Exo 21:12 “Whoever hits someone and kills him is to be put to death.
Exo 21:15 “Whoever hits his father or his mother is to be put to death.ut to death.
Exo 21:16 “Whoever kidnaps someone, either to sell him or to keep him as a slave, is to be put to death.
Exo 21:17 “Whoever curses his father or his mother is to be put to death.

There are many more ridiculous such moral standards in the Bible suitable for a generation of 2000 years ago . Do we want to regress to that time in history?

THE BIBLE IS TRUE: OR IS IT?

Many are those that declare “the Bible Is True”, Is it really? Do you believe the following without reasonable doubt?

    Bible truth? Snakes eat dust?
Gen 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

Bible truth? Fowls with four legs?
Lev 11:20 All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.

Bible truth? Hares and rabbits chew cud?
Lev 11:6 And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

Bible truth? Beatles and insects with four feet?
    Lev 11:21 Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth;
Lev 11:22 Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind.

Bible truth? Balaam and Donkey (ass) have a conversation?
Num 22:28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
Num 22:29 And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
Num 22:30 And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.

    The genealogies of Jesus Christ

The book of Matthew Chapter 1 Verse 6 gives the genealogy of Jesus Christ from David to Jesus. Luke 3 verse 23 also gives the genealogy of Jesus Christ through David. They are listed belov from Jesus to David for clarity and for comparrison.. Immediately we see differences in the number of generations 28 as compared to 43. Secondly after 2 Joseph none of the names match. How can this be if not a total fabrication by the authors, neither of which has more authority than the other.

The challenge I pose is open to all Christians,be they ministers or lay persons, to explain the genealogies and the errancy of the Bible. I hold that they can not and that the Bible is a fabrication, a collection of books which were written for specific sects of Christianity and were never intended to be compared side by side.

    A God of Love?

Here is a little tidbit for those who go around proclaiming the “Love of God” or “God is love” of even “God is a loving God, and he Loves you”. To those that believe God is love and loving they only have to read the old testament! After all if the Bible is the “Word of God” and that the Bible contains “No errors or contradictions”, then you must believe ALL of the Bible or NONE of it. The following is but a small sampling of the violence contained within the Bibles pages.

Biblical scholar Raymond Schwager: ( About : Raymund Schwager (born November 11, 1935-February 27, 2004) was a Swiss Roman Catholic theologian )

“… has found 600 passages of explicit violence in the Hebrew Bible [a.k.a. Old Testament], 1000 verses where God’s own violent actions of punishment are described, 100 passages where God expressly commands others to kill people, and several stories where God irrationally kills or tries to kill for no apparent reason. Violence … is easily the most often mentioned activity in the Hebrew Bible.”

Many passages in the Hebrew Scriptures describe major loss of life, most were conventional wars. Four events would qualify as genocides under current definitions . They were:

    1. The worldwide flood during the time of Noah as described in Genesis, chapters 6 to 8. According to the description, it wiped out the human race, with the exception of Noah, his wife and sons and their wives.

    2. The Passover described in Exodus chapters 11 and 12, in which all the firstborn of Egypt were slaughtered. This included newborns, children, youths, adults, the elderly.

    3. In the conquest of Canaan, God ordered the Hebrews to completely exterminate the Canaanite people – Man, woman and children, and is described throughout the book of Joshua occurring in Jericho and other Caananite cities.

The near extermination of the tribe of Benjamin by the remaining 11 tribes. This was triggered by the serial rape and murder of a priest’s concubine by a few Benjamites. See Judges, chapter 20.

The first three of the above genocides have three factors in common:

    1. The Bible explains that God was primarily responsible.

    2. Many liberal Christians, liberal Jews, historians and biblical archaeologists believe that all three are religious myths — stories of great spiritual significance concerning events that never happened.

    3. Jewish and Christian conservatives generally believe in that the authors of the Bible were inspired by God with their writings being inerrant. They believe the genocides happened as described in the Bible.

In addition, the book of Revelation, predicts that a massive genocide will occur at some time in our future, and in association with the war of Armageddon and the end of the world as we know it

Did Jesus meet the Biblical requirements of the Messiah?

Many consider Jesus to be the Jewish Messiah and King of the Jews, but was he? Did he meet the requirements as set forth in the Old Testament? Was he but a man or was he divine? Let us explore this subject in a little more depth.

    1. He Must be Jewish. ( Deu 17:5 Num 24:17)
    2. He Must be of the Tribe of Judah. (Gen 49:10 )
    3. He Must be a male descendant of King David (I Chr 17:11, Ps 89:29-38, Jer 33:17, II Sam 7:12-16) and King Solomon. (I Chr 22:10, II Chr 7:18)
    4. He Must gather the Jewish people from exile and return them to Israel. (Isa 27:12-13, Isa 11:12)
    5. He Must rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. (Mic 4:1)
    6. He Must bring world peace. (Isa 2:4, Isa 11:6, Mic 4:3)
    7. He Must influence the entire world to acknowledge and to serve One God. (Isa 11:9, Isa 40:5, Zep 3:9)
    8. The Sanhedrin will be RE-Established. (Isa 1:26)
    9. He Will take the barren land and make it abundant and fruitful. (Isa 5:13, Ams 9:13-15, Ez 36:29-30 Isa 11:6-9)
    10. Jews will know the Torah without study. (Jer 31:33)
    11. The weapons of war will be destroyed. (Ez 39:9)
    12. The ruined cities of Israel will be Restored. (Ez 16:55)
    13. Once he is King the leaders of other nations Will look to him for guidance. (Isa 2:4)
    14. Evil and tyranny Will Not stand before his leadership. (Isa 11:4)
    15. The peoples of the world Will turn to the Jews for spiritual guidance. (Zec 8:23)
    16. He Will be a man of this world, an observant Jew with “fear of God”. (Isa 11:2)
    17. The Jewish people Will experience Eternal Joy and gladness. (Isa 51:11)
    18. There Will be no hunger or illness, and death will cease. (Isa 25:Cool
    19. All the dead Will rise again. (Isa 26:19)
    20. The whole world Will worship the God of Israel (Isa 2:17)

Now let’s see if Jesus meet ALL of the requirements in order to be King of the Jews and the promised Messiah.

    Jesus was Jewish.

He was of the tribe of Judah IFAND ONLY IF he was the child of Joseph and Mary and NOT from the concept of the immaculate conception, AND if the genealogy in the book of Matthew is correct. Luke’s genealogy does NOT Include Solomon.

Jesus DID NOT gather the Jewish people from exile and return them to Israel

Jesus DID NOT rebuild the temple he only stated he would if it were destroyed.

Jesus Did Not bring world peace he only spoke of it.

Jesus Failed in his attempt to influence the world to serve ONE .

    The Sanhedrin was still established.

Jesus Did Not destroy the weapons of war.

Jesus Did Not make the lands fruitful, let alone the barren lands.

The Jews Did Not know the Torah without study. Jesus even instructed the priest of the Temple.

Jesus Did Not restore the cities of Israel

Jesus Did Not have other nations looking to him for guidance as the supposed King of the Jews.

Evil and tyranny Still Remained during his life.

The people of the world Never looked to the Jews for spiritual guidance.

The Jewish people to this day Have Not joy, happiness, or peace let alone it be eternal.

There is still hunger, illness, and death in the world.

The dead are still in their graves.

The world has NEVER worshiped the God of Israel and does not do so to this day.

The only conclusion that can be reasonably reached based upon the proofs of the Bible is that Jesus not only failed to meet the test of The Messiah he failed them miserably. not only failed as the messiah but he also failed as a King of the Jews. He talked the talk but he could not walk the walk.

In Matthew 27:52-53 The Bible tells us that upon the death of Jesus, “Mat 27:52 and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints that had fallen asleep were raised; Mat 27:53 and coming forth out of the tombs after his resurrection they entered into the holy city and appeared unto many. “ If this were a true occurrence would it not be recorded by other historians? Are the rotting and roted corpses still walking the Earth today? Did the die again and return to their graves? Did they fly up to Heaven with Jesus? Did they look up old friends and relations and have dinner with them? This Biblical occurrence, as recorded in only one of the Gospels, goes against our God-given reason! Surely such an amazing occurrence would be recorded by the Romans who ruled Palestine at that time. Would such an event not be worthy of inclusion into the other Gospels? Think about it! If the dead were rising from their graves, hanging out in the cemetery for three days, and then walking into Jerusalem to be seen by Many, surely someone would have recorded this amazing event! If this Biblical Myth makes you wonder about the validity and truthfulness of the Bible, then maybe you are ready to unite your God-given reason to your belief in God and not the claims of some “Holy Book”. You are a Deist my friend!

Any Christian out there care to try and explain the 10 commandments listed in Exodus 34? They do differ from the ones displayed all over the country. Because Moses Broke the first tables of stone the 10 listed in the chapter must be the ones according to the God of the Bible (exodus 34:1). Any takers?

I have a question for any Christian which cares to answer it. It concerns Mark 16: 15-18. You know the contract between Jesus and “his followers”. If his followers are who they claim to be then why do we still have hospitals? Why do they not heal the ill, the terminally ill, Why can they not perform the signs of his followers as promised by Jesus?
